Steve the Freakysaur

Steve the Freakysaur is the Chrome dinosaur game, except Steve jumps when you stick your tongue out at your webcam. It was built in one day by Diwen Huang and Hao Cui at Daydream Vancouver on September 27, 2025, and won first place among 124 students and more than 50 projects.

MediaPipe tracks the face, and the game counts red pixels inside the 20 landmarks that outline the lips. The mouth has to be open at least 8 pixels with red covering 6% of it, since lips and warm light read as red too. By evening it tracked two faces for two players, and the last feature went in at 7:42 PM, during demos.

The LinkedIn post got 2,696 reactions and more than 250,000 impressions, and led to Diwen's first engineering offers.
